Currently, I’m working on a landscape series using gesso as a base with Gouache paint, drawing materials and potentially oil paint as a final layer. Gesso is made from a mixer of calcium carbonate and Rabbit skin glue. It is the same material used as a painting support in fresco walls paintings. The images below and video of me making the gesso will give some idea of the process. It is a very labor intensive operation.
